Final ResultsBy Paul Kenyon NEWPORT - Mike Botelho of Montaup pulled away from the field Wednesday to win the 16th annual John P. Burke Memorial’s Net Division Championship by five strokes.Botelho, a seven-handicapper, recorded a four-under 68 at Newport CC to finish the 36-hole event at 8-under 134. Anthony DeFusco of Ledgemont and Anthony Caprio of Melody Hill, the first-day leader, tied for second at 139. Keith MacWhorter of Montaup had the low round of the second day, a 66, and finished fourth and was the only other player under par for the event, which benefits the John P. Burke Memorial Scholarship Fund. The day included a hole-in-one by Potowomut’s John Wragg on the 165-yard eighth hole. Wragg used a seven-wood for his first-ever ace. | |
