Bob Dufresne
Bob Dufresne was looking for an avenue to keep himself busy once he retired in 1999 after spending 29 years as an electrical engineer for the Department of the Navy at its Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport.
He first got involved in volunteerism just shortly after his retirement through course ratings with the Massachusetts Golf Association. And in 2008, he was asked if he wanted to get into the rules of golf and become a rules official.
It was something he was unsure about but he dove in head first. An avid learner, Dufresne found a passion in the rules and education.
His impact on the Rhode Island Golf Association has been paramount. He has served as a volunteer rules official with the RIGA for 13 years. He has a constant presence at events and is always around to offer help and educate others on the rules. It's those relationships that keep him going.
He's done approximate 25 events per season since 2008. It's his enthusiasm and passion that is infectious.
