PORTSMOUTH _ Susie Cavanagh, just back from her first trip of the US Women's Amateur in Oregon, won her second straight RIGA Women's Stroke Play Championship on Monday, but had to work overtime to do it.
Cavanagh and former Junior Champion Caroline Farber both shot 5-over-par 78s at Montaup CC to tie for first. Both then bogeyed the first hole of the playoff. Cavanagh won with a birdie on the second extra hole to Farber's par.
The two each had four birdies in regulation, Farber gtting all four in the front side, Cavanagh three on the front and one on the back.
They needed all the birds they could get because scoring was tight. Interscholastic League champion Katie Um was third just one behind the leaders and new Junior Champion Alexis Florio fourth with an 80. Florio and Um both had one bad hole, a triple bogey, to ruin their chances. Um had hers on the par-4 17th, Florio on the par-3 10th.

Farber, Kay Bullock and Jane Geary tied for low net with 75s.

In the putting competition kept for the Stroke Play and the State Amateur, Angel MacLeod and Bette DiDonato tied with 63 putts each.
